Event Details
The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks are proud to announce the first annual Carriage Cup game at the Tribute Communities Centre on January 11, 2024, against the York Lions.
The name Carriage Cup came from a collaboration with the Ontario Tech Student Union (OTSU) and pays homage to the innovative and entrepreneurial history of automobile manufacturing in Oshawa. It will also mark the first game of a new tradition that will see the Ridgebacks play at the Tribute Communities Centre yearly.
“Our men’s hockey program is very excited for the opportunity to head downtown and kickstart a new tradition at the Tribute Centre,” said Ridgebacks head coach Curtis Hodgins. “With the York Lions now part of our OUA East division as of this season, it definitely won’t take long for the rivalry to heat up this season, and this game will be a great way to show our local community just how good U SPORTS hockey is. We look forward to working with our athletics department, the OTSU, and our community partners to make this a tremendously successful event.”
“Starting new traditions is always exciting, and the game at the Tribute Communities Centre is something that has been in the works for a while,” said Ontario Tech athletic director Scott Barker. “It will be a great experience, not only for our student-athletes to play in a historic venue like the Tribute Communities Centre, but for our students who get the experience the game as fans as well.”
In 2006, the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks were officially accepted into Ontario University Athletics with a unanimous vote and Ontario Tech has been fostering the development of student-athletes ever since. In 2022, they celebrated 80 academic award winners, a school record. The Ridgebacks will also host the 2024 U SPORTS men’s soccer national championship in 2024.
