Land Acknowledgement
The Tribute Communities Centre operates on lands covered under the Williams Treaties and the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi.
These lands remain home to a number of Indigenous nations and people and we are thankful to all Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America. We believe it is our responsibility to embrace meaningful discussions as we continue to learn about and from our past, as well as our present, in an effort to build a brighter future with stronger connections.
It is important to note that our acknowledgement statement was created in consultation with Jill Thompson, Indigenous Cultural Advisor at Ontario Tech University. We would like to thank her for her contribution to the development of this statement.
